Restoring Franschhoek's Demonstration Garden

In our ongoing commitment to conservation and community engagement, Orgari is proud to share the story of our involvement in restoring The Demonstration Garden in Franschhoek, after the 2023 floods.

This garden has been leased since the early 2000s by Judah James, under the guidance of Cape Nature and the Botanical Society of South Africa, holds a special place as a hub of education and botanical heritage. Guided by Judah's expertise, the garden has been a sanctuary of learning, offering visitors guided tours that showcase the rich diversity of medicinal plants indigenous to the Franschhoek area.

Visitors, both local and international, have been captivated by the garden and the knowledge shared about the healing properties of South Africa's native flora, such as the popular Buchu plant, Latin name being Agothosma betulina. The Buchu is not only known for its distinct smell, but it is also famed for its anti-inflmmatory and anti-septic properties - all of which can be harnessed under the right guidance. This is exactly why Orgari has decided to support Judah in his efforts to restore The Demonstration Garden and reconnect the local community, as well as our international vistors, with indigenous plant medicine.

As part of our dedication to environmental stewardship, we are donating a portion of our sales proceeds to aid in rejuvenating and preserving this vital botanical space. Our partnership with Judah underscores our shared values of promoting indigenous wisdom and traditions while safeguarding the natural heritage of our land.
